A discussion about exceptional women in Jewish history, mythology, and the present day with Jan Fingerland, author of the book Hebrew Women, and Pavl\u00edna \u0160ulcov\u00e1, director of the Bubny Center for Memory and Dialogue, which published its first translated publication, Jewish Heroines, in the spring. While Fingerland maps the fates of biblical women and the changes in their interpretations over the centuries, Jewish Heroines offers portraits of 120 women from around the world who shaped Jewish and world culture. The Prague premiere of this original adaptation of the nearly century-long history of the Strach family from Brno is based on the story of a a holiday prayer book, the Machzor, confiscated during World War II in Terez\u00edn. After 82 years, it was rediscovered and returned to the family of its original owners. The Machzor was part of a collection of 12,000 prayer books confiscated from Jews in concentration camps on the territory of the Czech Republic. As part of the Library of Stolen Hopes project, the Jewish Community of Brno strives not only to archive these books but above all to trace the descendants of the original owners and return the volumes to them. The exhibition presents the golden age of the Jewish community in Al-Andalus \u2013 medieval Spain under Muslim rule \u2013 between the 10th and 12th centuries. Through historical documents, religious texts, poems, and stories, visitors will learn about the daily life and cultural and intellectual heritage of this unique community. The exhibition is being held in cooperation with the Embassy of Spain in Prague (Embajada de Espa\u00f1a en Praga).
