State visit of the President of the State of Israel to the Czech Republic

On Monday, June 11, 2022, the President of the State of Israel Jicchak Herzog with his wife, First Lady Michal Herzog visited the Czech Republic at the invitation of President Miloš Zeman.

Before the start of the official part, the Israeli presidential couple visited the Jewish Museum in Prague. Accompanied by the Deputy director of the museum, Zuzana Pavlovská, the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities, Petr Papoušek and the Vice-President of the Prague Jewish Community, Tomáš Pasernak, they toured the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Pinkas Synagogue, and the Old New Synagogue. A meeting of the Israeli delegation with representatives of the Czech Jewish community took place at the Jewish Community Town Hall. The President of the Federation, Petr Papoušek, in his opening address said: “We are honored and happy that you are with us today at the heart of the Jewish Community in the Czech Republic, the Jewish town hall in Prague. We greatly appreciate that you are continuing the legacy of your father, President Chaim Herzog, who visited Prague 31 years to promote friendship and cooperation between the former Czechoslovakia and the State of Israel. It is important to work on our friendship on daily basis and continue to develop it.”

The Office of the President of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Foundation for Holocaust Victims, organized a meeting between the two presidents and survivors of the Shoah at the Prague Castle.

A state luncheon was held at the Prague Castle in the Vladislav Hall with the participation of approximately 140 people. Representatives of Jewish communities in the Czech Republic were also invited.
